Patrick Groenen awarded Lecturer and Tomas Miskov and Ming Chen TA's of the Year

Faculty member Patrick Groenen (Erasmus University Rotterdam) was awarded the Lecturer of the year for Supervised Machine Learning and Tomas Miskov was awarded the BDS-TA of the year for the same course. Ming Chen was awarded the BDS-TI Common Courses TA of the year for Econometrics III and Asset Pricing.

Groenen was awarded for Supervised Machine Learning: a type of machine learning that learns the relationship between input and output. The inputs are known as features or ‘X variables’ and output is generally referred to as the target or ‘y variable’. The type of data which contains both the features, and the target is known as labeled data. It is the key difference between supervised and unsupervised machine learning, two prominent types of machine learning.

The prize was awarded during the graduation ceremony for the research master Business Data Science cohort 2021-2023  on November 24. The ceremony was organized together with the student cohort of the Tinbergen Institute research master in Economics.
